Economic Development Officer

The City of Port Colborne is seeking an Economic Development Officer with excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem solving, communication, report writing, research, negotiation, public relations, financial and project/time management skills.  

Reporting to the Manager of Strategic Initiatives, you will be responsible for the leadership, facilitation and maintenance of community partnerships and opportunities involving regional and provincial partners, local businesses, business associates, advisory groups, residents, developers, realtors and other contacts to deliver successful results that improve the quality of life for Port Colborne residents. You will be responsible for the Corporate vision as it applies to the department initiatives, principles, standards and best practice and assisting with the implementation of the City’s Economic Development Strategy and Action Plan, and the Tourism Strategy. You will be responsible for the yearly budget preparation and monitoring.

You have a minimum of five years’ experience with a demonstrated background in economic development, planning, tourism, public relations, marketing and political intuition. You have a four-year honours degree in business administration, economics, planning, political science or related field of study. You are eligible for membership with Economic Developers Association of Canada. The preferred candidate will have full membership with Economic Developers Association of Canada. You must have strong skills in MS Office, presentations and database software. 

This position will require attendance at City Council to support departmental initiatives and reports, providing presentations and direct communication to Council and the public.    

Must have a Class G driver’s license in good standing.    

The salary for this position is currently under review.  The City also offers a competitive pension and benefit package.

Customer Service Representative / Cashier

The City of Port Colborne is looking for an energetic and motivated individual who shares our high standard for customer service and a common desire to provide exceptional service as a first point of contact at the front counter and by phone.   

The Customer Service Representative/Cashier will deliver on a broad range of customer service deliverables.  Responsibilities include assisting customers with inquiries, receiving, recording payments to accounts, issuing tax certificates, assisting in tax and water collections, payment arrangements, processing parking ticket payments, arrears letters, performing account receivable invoicing and providing administrative office support to Corporate Services. 

The ideal candidate will have a College diploma in finance, accounting, hospitality or related education with a minimum of 1 year experience in customer service, accounting, and collections or an equivalent combination. You have strong computer skills and an interest in learning new software programs. Mathematical proficiency is required and accounting knowledge would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will also have excellent organizational, interpersonal, cash handling and customer service skills.  Additionally, you will have strong skills in dealing courteously and effectively with the general public and staff in a fast paced, high volume environment.

This is a part time position of up to 24 hours per week. The rate of pay is $26.10 per hour.
