Public Information Meeting for Wignell Baseline Drain Report

Posted by Michelle Cuthbert on Wednesday, October 10th, 2018

The City of Port Colborne is providing notice of completion of a report on the Wignell Drain. The Wignell Baseline Drain Report will be used to establish the scope of work for a future Drainage Engineer’s Report to be endorsed by Council.  The Wignell Baseline Drain Report provides an assessment of the Drain and reports on previous changes since the last Engineer’s Report.

Under the Drainage Act, a site meeting is required for proposed drainage works to be undertaken by petition by appointment of an engineer. The original appointment of Wiebe Engineering led to the following site meetings and Public Information Centre (PIC).

  • Wignell Michener Site meeting September 19, 2003

  • Wignell Michener PIC meeting July 15, 2002

  • Wignell Michener PIC meeting October 20, 2003

  • Wignell Michener PIC meeting October 20, 2004

After Wiebe Engineering declared bankruptcy, the City of Port Colborne appointed AMEC Earth and Environment, who became The Wood Group and were unable to complete the preparation of a Drainage Engineer’s Report. The City of Port Colborne has recently appointed Paul Marsh, P.Eng. of EWA Engineering to continue the preparation of the new Engineer’s Drainage Report under the Drainage Act Section 78.

Since 14 years has passed since the last PIC, a Public Information Meeting to consider the Baseline Report has been scheduled for:

Wednesday, October 24, 2018
7 to 9 p.m.
Port Colborne Engineering & Operations Centre, 1 Killaly Street W (next to Firehall)

The PIC format will provide the Baseline Report for review and discussion with the Drainage Engineer as well as provide maps for an opportunity to contribute to the discussion about the scope of work required on the Wignell Drain.  Should you have any drainage concerns with respect to the Municipal Drain, now is the time to voice your concerns.
